Library Voices in Campus Conversations
Friday April 24, 2026 9:30am - 10:20am CDT
Librarians, with their core values and disciplinary expertise, can bring a unique perspective to campus conversations around critical issues in higher education and society. Join librarians from Gustavus Adolphus College as they share their recent experiences participating in campus discussions around generative AI, information literacy, and intellectual freedom in a democratic society. Learn how they expanded partnerships and raised the profile of the library by engaging in outward facing events such as speaker panels, teach-ins, and all-campus conversations around critical issues. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their own experiences around bringing library voices and expertise to campus conversations.

Save Our Signs: Countering Censorship through Collaboration
Friday April 24, 2026 9:30am - 10:20am CDT
Save Our Signs is a crowdsourced research project launched in response to the Trump administration issuing "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History" an executive order that targets educational resources found in National Parks Service (NPS) sites across the country. We invite members of the public to visit NPS sites, engage with history, and take photos of interpretive signs to be preserved in a public archive. By early 2026, the government removed or censored over 50 signs at NPS sites. Censored topics range from history of slavery at Independence National Historical Park to the long history of Indigenous stewardship at Acadia National Park to climate change at Glacier National Park. In this session, we will describe how we used crowdsourcing, geospatial expertise, and cross-departmental collaboration to respond to this historic threat to information.

Successes and Challenges with Teaching Data Literacy in Academic Libraries
Friday April 24, 2026 9:30am - 10:20am CDT
Join data literacy librarians, Jane Campbell and Kara Schleck, for an informal roundtable discussion about our experiences with advancing data literacy on our campuses. We encourage participants to join us in sharing examples of projects and initiatives that have worked well or not-so-well, and what you've learned from those experiences. All levels of experience with data literacy and areas of expertise are welcome in this conversation, and we hope that participants will exchange new and helpful ideas and tips for improving student engagement with data.
